Fall break, also known as the best part of my first semester back at grad school because this girl needs a break! I was so lucky to have a week off school, partly which was spent in Strasbourg, France. Located right next to the German border in the eastern side of France, straddling the River Rhine as its border, Strasbourg is a gorgeous fifth century city that is currently the seat of the European Parliament. Its mixture of Franco-German architecture and culture has made me envy this little city for quiet some time. It also is in the Alsace-Lorraine region, where my family (the Martzells) emigrated from in the late 1800s. If you’ve ever wanted to visit outside of Paris, Strasbourg is highly recommended by me. It’s like if Snow White crossed the border from Germany and met the seven dwarves in this French city.

I’m not a huge fan of Halloween. There! I said it. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy candy and dressing up. But, I usually don’t think of an outfit until way too late and by that time, I can’t scramble together an outfit. As for the candy, I’m too old to trick or treat but too young to have children go trick or treating. So I’m stuck in this period of like Why are we doing Halloween again this year?

For my first Halloween in Paris, I took a trip to a “spooky” cemetery: Pere Lachaise. Located in Paris’ 20eme, Pere Lachaise is the final resting place of notable figures like Jim Morrison, Oscar Wilde, Edith Pilaf and Frédéric Chopin. It’s hard to try to make this cemetery seem spooky as it is just a beautiful space, but I’d like to think spending some time there was “boo-tiful”.

Did you even visit London if you didn’t visit sketch? London’s most posh restaurant is famous, and not just for its food. Peep Kylie Jenner, Bella Hadid, (old) Taylor Swift’s Instagram, and you will see the funkiest bathrooms or the pretties pink velvet chairs you’ve ever seen. Maybe pictures of egg like pods with disco ceilings? That’s sketch. It’s so posh it’s not even capitalized. I was ready to sign up as the next Posh Spice when I had the privilege of dining at restaurant with the most Instagrammable toilets on the Internet.

Have you noticed there’s been a huge surge in fashion that was popular in the 70s? Bell bottom pants, ponchos, and puffy shirts/dresses have been featured in fashion shows for at least three seasons. Women on the streets could be plucked right from the 70s and put in modern day. It seems that 1970s fashion is not quite ready to leave the public eye. What do you think about the fringe overload? Purses, pants, jackets, you name it. Fringe is in, and I’m definitely not complaining.

A hat can do way more than just cover up a bad hair day. Hats can make the perfect outfit even better. They can fix a bad hair day. Oh yeah, they can also keep the sun out of your face! I’m really particular with hats and tend to go for big, wide brim hats. Then, I saw Youtuber and singer, Poppy (please check her out—she is so cool!) sporting the coolest hat ever and I knew I wanted a similar hat. Then, I saw the hat ALL OVER. Like the majority of my purchases, I opted not to get it the first time. A few days later I went back again and grabbed it while it was available. The Baker Boy Hat (or Captain’s hat, whatever you prefer) is the sweetest accessory you can purchase right now.
