The title says it all. My blog is two years old! Although I only started being consistent with posts around this time last year, I began Maison De Martzell two years ago on a whim. I had no idea what I was doing and only minimum experience in webdesign! Luckily, I’d like to think some of that’s changed in two years. Better content, pictures, and design elements. Such a special day for MdM should be celebrated in the best way, and right now my big, fabulous piece of clothing is a pink faux fur coat. If there’s anything that instantly screams, “Faaaaaaaaabulous!”, it’s this faux fur coat. Rejoice, ladies, because this fur is all conflict-free.
Here’s some food for though, and food for though for my own life. I am currently taking an intensive course in fashion sustainability. Some of you may be aware that companies like Zara, Mango, Forever 21…etc are considered “fast fashion”. Unfortunately these companies are not very good in terms of product sustainability and create tons of environment.
As a lover of Zara and other types of similar stores, I feel like I’ve been turning a blind eye to the “true costs” of fashion. I hadn’t realized the impact of fast fashion until beginning this course for my graduate program. I’m honestly a little embarrassed and sad because I really enjoy some of the clothing from these companies, but feel partly responsible for the abundance of waste some of these companies create. Therefore, I’m hoping to make a conscious effort with my own preferences and on Maison De Martzell to bring an awareness to this issue and to move towards companies that are most sustainable or leave less of an carbon footprint.
Unfortunately, my next few blog posts actually feature products exactly from these companies, so I won’t be able to start showing an effort on my blog of my attempted shift towards sustainability. I hope soon that I can be able to introduce you all to companies that don’t sacrifice clothing in an attempt to withstand the trends that seem to shift every week. Please, join me on this journey towards being conscious in our fashion choices!
Okay! Alors, this jacket is from Zara. This won’t make it seem better, but I did buy it before my enlightenment towards sustainability. The benefit is that it is faux fur! It finally got chilly here in paris (I hate it honestly, this girl doesn’t like cold!) so this jacket has become a necessity….because I didn’t pack accordingly for cold weather. I kind of went back and forth with myself before taking the plunge. So glad I did, though! It’s really warm and I just feel a little extra, even obnoxious, in it.
My leggings are from Koral Activewear, and can serve as gym leggings and casual leggings. The black bodysuit is from Free People and the shoes are vintage, from my mother. Jimmy Choo makes a similar pair. Finally, the drop necklace was a gift from my mother from brand, Ross Simons. The earrings are from a collaboration with Zaful.
I finally made it out to Montmartre, one of my favorite places in Paris. We had hoped to shoot in front of La Maison Rose, but they were doing repairs! I’m not upset though. It was a gorgeous day as the leaves began to fall…just a bit too hot for a fur coat. Such is life in fashion blogging!
Here’s to two years with MdM. I’m eager for the next years and thank you all for reading my blog. Xx.
