The Pussy Bow Is Our Favorite 70s Trend

When I first started blogging in 2015, one of my posts highlighted the pussy bow. Big name houses like Gucci and Fendi featured them in their runway shows. Then, last year Melania Trump wore a pussy bow top during a Presidential Debate. BOOM! All of a sudden, everyone stopped sleeping on the pussy bow and brought it out of the mother and grandmother’s closet. Literally. I took it out of both of their closets because it is so effortlessly chic. A cute blouse with a simple tie neck? You had me at bow. Pair it with polka dots…and it is already in my closet. Polka dots make any outfit better, as seen in THIS post.

The final post of my trip to Raleigh highlights the vibrant backdrop of the city against my retro inspired wardrobe. We set up our shoot at Death and Taxes, which has 3 different art murals on the same block! I was also lucky enough to photograph in front of a brand new mural by Dare Coulter called #DARETODISSENT.

This awesome vintage shirt is from FactoryBlue on Etsy. I was already head over heels when I saw this polka dot top that totally reminds me of Shirley Temple. Side story, but I thought I was Shirley Temple incarnate when I was eight years old. I was sure I was going to be a child star like her. 16 years later, and I’m still drawn to anything that reminds me of her. So this top was a YES before I even had it in my hands.

I love the look of red/white/blue. Seems so patriotic, but it definitely is a good pair of colors! I purchased the blue trousers from a local boutique in New Orleans after searching for an identical, but sold out, pair from Topshop. And you guessed it, the shoes are vintage (Bally), courtesy of my grandmother’s closet. It’s a tragic story, though. I broke the T-Strap on one pair of the shoes right before we shot this outfit, so I tried my best to hide it.

Since the outfit was so funky, I paired it with turquoise peace sign earrings and an Italian leather clutch. I love crazy, huge earrings especially when I’m wearing a pony tail. Such a loud pussy bow top deserved an equally loud accessory. What do you think of this 7os trend? Although the name isn’t optimal…this pussy bow grabs back. Meow!
